Democracy At Last

-by Jared McBride

Rubber bullets
(whizzing past)
Thank God, Democracy I found at last

Tear gas
(burning my eyes)
Democracy, were you just hiding in disguise?

Batons
(bashing my brain)
Promise me, democracy, things will always remain the same

Black boots
(kicking in my skull)
Democracy, I adore what you extoll

Handcuffs
(hands behind my back)
Now democracy I can totally relax

The cold prison door
(slammed in my face)
Democracy, make sure I'm erased

Democracy you're always been my friend
I promise to never raise my voice again
